Widget is an iPhone and iPad app for designing your own widgets. This page explains what the app stores, where it stays, and who else sees it. Widget is operated by Cheung Pak Wai, and “we” and “us” mean us.
The short version: everything stays on your device. We run no server for Widget and the app never sends your widgets, photos or calendar events to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting inside the app.
What the app stores on your device
Widget keeps the following in its own private storage on your device, shared only between the app and its own widgets:
- Your widget designs: each one’s template, colors, fonts and layout, and anything you typed into it, such as text, phrases, emoji, a countdown date, work and lunch hours, or a city for a world clock.
- Background photos you choose. You pick a photo with the system photo picker, so the app sees only the photo you pick and never the rest of your library. The app keeps a resized copy to draw behind the widget.
- Which calendars you chose for a holiday or event widget, as a reference to each calendar. Your events themselves are not copied into the app’s storage.
- Your settings, such as how the widget list is sorted and which widget you edited last.
- Whether you have bought Pro, so it works without a connection.
Your calendar
Widget asks for access to your calendar only if you add a widget that shows holidays or events. If you allow it, the app and its widgets read the events in the calendars you choose, on your device, to draw them. The app does not add, change or delete events, and nothing it reads leaves your device.
You can turn calendar access off at any time in the Settings app, under Privacy & Security, Calendars. The other widgets keep working.
Widget does not ask for access to your contacts, location, camera or microphone. A world clock uses the city you pick, not where you are.
What reaches us
Nothing from inside the app. We never see your widgets, your photos, your events or your settings.
When the app goes online
Widget connects to the internet for one thing only: the App Store, which shows the price of Pro and handles the purchase, or restores it, if you choose to. That connection is between your device and Apple. It does not carry your widgets, photos or events.
When other apps or services are involved
- App Store purchases. If you buy Pro, Apple processes the payment. We never receive your card or payment details. Apple gives us sales reports, such as the date, the price and the country of a purchase, which do not identify you. Apple’s handling of your payment is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
- Device backup. If iCloud Backup or a computer backup is turned on, your device may include Widget’s storage, including your widget designs and background photos, in that backup. That is controlled by your device’s settings and Apple’s privacy policy, and the backup never reaches us.
- The App Store. Apple handles downloading and updating the app. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass us anonymous statistics such as install counts and crash reports, which do not include your widgets or anything that identifies you.
- The Calendar app. Tapping a date or calendar widget opens Apple’s Calendar app. Nothing is passed to it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.
Deleting your data
- One widget: open the widget list, swipe left on the widget and tap Delete. Its background photo is removed from the app’s storage the next time the app opens.
- Everything: delete the app. That deletes every widget design, photo copy and setting on the device.
Deleting from the app does not remove a device backup held by Apple or on your computer. Delete those where they are kept. Your own photos and calendar events are never changed or deleted by the app.
Children
Widget is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If a future version handles your information differently, we will update this page and change the date at the top before that version is released.
